Weekend of 4/23
Question... A bunch of us were thinking about driving up from NYC this weekend to hit tucks and have been planning this for months... However the weather is looking hairy... They are forecasting rain, snow, wind etc... What is your advice? Should we bag it or take a chance, whats are your thoughts/expierence.
Thanks

Only you can decide, the go/no-go decision is a tought one when the weather and mount Washington are involved.
I'd say, if you have rooms reserved and the time off and all that jazz - you should go, but be very prepared to turn around on the trail if it gets too hairy or miserable for you.
Worst Case; You have a good time with your friends in the Mountain Town and don't get to do much hiking due to weather.
What else do you have to do? Do you have other trips planned to Tux?

I used to go up from the city all the time...
You just gotta go... Pack your rain gear.. And go..
Cause - just because the weather says chance of rain doesnt mean boo... It could turn out to be nice and you've missed yet another year!!
If you go - hit us on the radio 9-14...

Thanks for the info --- We have until Thur or Fri to cancel the hotel rooms.
We'll definately give a shout out on the radio and meet up at lunch rocks.
If anyone else has advice let me know!

depends on your objectives. if you're trying to knock off some of the steeper chutes, conditions don't look prime. if enough rain percolates through the snowpack, avi conditions will be mod-high and you may not even get into the bowl.
if you're just looking to get out of the smog of the city and enjoy the mtns. and the environment and not too concerned with numbers, just go and enjoy.

Yeah, I know it is a few days out still, and the weather forecast can change at any time. I'll keep my eye on it, and make the call on Friday. I'll be packed and ready to go though...

Take the car ride...if the weather turns around, you'll be happy that you made the trip. Even if you don't get to ski/ ride, you'll never get the time back. Go and try to have fun.

Yup! I concur with all the sage advice above. Make the drive, be prepared for not ski/ride (ing). I would certainly not take "...chance of rain..." as a good reason to NoGo from the city. I'm on day seven on Mt Wash and I only live 3 hours away, so I'm thnking I'll stay home this weekend and catch up on stuff, but if this was possibly my only weekend opp, I would so be there.

Like I said...it's gonna be a last minute call. I have a ton of crap that needs to get done, and the boat has got to go in the water. So if the weathr is less than ideal, I'm going to pull out and try again in a few weeks.
