Pico has a pretty big program for this....its neat. You can volunteer to "assist" them on the mtn....Assist? Some of them are better and faster than me...
When I was out in CO this past season I saw a few Blind skiers...that was the coolest thing I ever saw......one of em was on the same trail we were on...all bumped up....pretty sick....those people are my heros....

Sorry... Your post just made me think about it again..
I've known about the website for a while...
But just to be clear - AWF170 posted the link on Alpine Zone! Thanks!
I see him out a couple times a month...
Also see the little girl too... She a cutie.. Sat in her wheel chair and watched my band play last year.. She seemed to like the music...

Yeah, I ski with my blind father all the time, well he doesn't go out all that often. Pico and Sugarbush both have offices of VAS, Vermont Adaptive Sports.
Love the knee cam!

I read an article not too long ago about a skier that lost the use of his legs, I'm pretty sure it was unrelated to skiing. He was really good, skied all the back bowls and stuff. He switched to sitski and when he got really good he started looking up at the boot trail to access the terrain he so well remembered. He was always buddies with the Patrol from way back (I want to say Aspen, but I'm really not sure).
Anyway, they got together and hauled him and his sitski up. If I reacall correctlly it was a decent 30 minute hike anyway, and it took them twice that taking turns pulling him and his gear up. He said things like, "I never thought I'd see that bowl again," and "These guys 'carried' me up," a real jerker.
Being somewhat familiar with it, I highly recomend volunteering to assist adaptive skiers, it is very rewarding on a personal level. Skiing with my blind father has scared the living out of me on more than one occasion, like when we were traversing on a green across Gazelle (a black bump trail at MRG) and he didn't seem to be responding to my, "a little bit left... a bit LEFT... a bit LEFT... LEFT!" only to see him tumble down the 30 degree bump trail. He got right back up.
He's a bit deaf too... next time we'll use radios with headsets.

Great that your dads out there, he is now on my hero list. I think thats the coolest thing, and hopefully when I get myself closer to the mtns I can begin to volunteer with these exceptional individuals.

The SitSki guys are pretty much self reliant...
The thing I do is help out is the Burton 9-11 FDNY charity..
Every year Burton brings up 100s of kids from NYC who lost parents on 9-11... They hook them up with lodging, food and a full board setups for a weekend...
It's a blast!
