OT: GPS Software

One of the companies I do computer work for has a bunch of restaurants. The president of the company was off on a fishing trip this past weekend, and one of this partners brought along a GPS. He noticed that none of his restaurants showed up in the mapping software but many others did. I'm not a GPS guru what so ever, so bare with me here. I know that probably each GPS manufacturer provides different mapping software, plus I understand you can buy 3rd party stuff to. Does anyone know how to get your business listed or is it something where we have to contact each mapping company separately. Your thoughts and comments would be appriciated and could be rewarded by rep.

Thanks

Not sure Jolly.. I do know that our business pops up on our Garmin software when you zoom into our location. We never asked to be included.

Looking at business that are listed, it appears it is more a sampling then a comprensive list.

It will be hard to have anyone add until it is time to do an Update of their software.

You might want to email Garmin and ask to be included the next time they update.

Id research Garmin, TOMTOM, ect.... and find out what database they use, Im sure they share similar data, and who ever provides that data is who you want to talk to.

Weather or not this will take $$ is unknown.

For Topo Maps I use a 3rd Party download program called TOPO-Fusion which only shows streets, and topography, although you could manually add waypoints. Its neat cause it does 3-D which allows you to visualize your upcoming trip or past trip.
