Don't sweat it...the 500 is better as it has a toe slide to help the release, the 555 doesn't. Lots of great skiing can be done on Silvretta's....but they just don't inspire confidence for me on steep terrain.

My Silvrettas are relegated to approach duty for ice climbing in mountaineering boots. For climbing ascents to get steep descents, I'll stick w/my Freerides and climb in my DenaliTT AT boots.

I've got the Silvretta 505s which I use for easy tours with climbing boots. (i.e. http://www.pbase.com/kayak777/south_georgia)

Kind of fiddly and I don't trust the heel only release. I've used them on black diamond runs at ski areas, but off piste in difficult snow conditions, climbing boots just don't cut it. I'd go with Fritschi's or Naxo's if you want to do any serious skiing (but neither will work with climbing boots.)

I have the first season's EZ go's (don;t know the model #).

They are super light, but there is some slop in the heels, which, when combined with the slipper-like softness of the Scarpa Denali's doesn't make for super confidence in steep stuff in sketchy conditions, I can say that I've used that set-up to pull a sled (actually a Cascade 200 backcountry sled w/o brakes, loaded with about 350lbs ("patient" and gear) down Sorcerer at Magic (ungroomed) without a problem. (Granted, training, not a real patient.

I like the bindings, but I don;t really have experience with anthing else. I have to believe that there are now better choices out there.

cheap Fritschi bindings

If you ned a size large, look at these ($174):
http://www.backcountry.com/store/BLD...ml?id=M2t7fmtn

Almost identical to the Freerides that are going for $424 now (I've got a pair of each, the diamir 3s have survived several years of abuse) except the DIN only goes up to 10. Also they don't come with brakes (another $60 but they do come with return springs which make touring easier and the freerides don't have), but hey, you're good enough that your skis rarely come off anyway, right?
