Silvretta Pure Alpine Touring Bindings???

Silvretta Pure Alpine Touring Bindings???
After only a few season of tele skiing my knees are trashed… I’m looking at getting some AT gear. I’m looking at a pair of Silvretta Pure Alpine Touring Bindings, size large (340-370mm). What do people thing about these? I can get them cheap.

Lou Dawson of WildSnow.com had some interesting remarks regarding the Pure:

Sounds like you are okay if you are a light weight and/or doing light touring but not best for large dudes or rippers.

I have Pures. Nice and light. Pivoting on the ball of your boot is great!

A bit awkward to unlock/lock down binding... but maybe thats me. Haven't had other AT bindings to compare too. Occasional icing up on the heel depending on the conditions. Same deal for other bindings I'm sure.

I chewed the pastic heel piece up a bit using my alternate ski edge to lockdown the binding. My bad.

I'm fairly light at about 172.5 lbs which helps and I'm not overly aggressive in the BC (especially considering all the green grass this winter ). 2 seasons.. still happy with them.

Dawson makes them seem pretty flimsy. Hard to recommend them, given their pattern of failure over the years. That's why they're so affordable now. You should be able to find decent prices this summer on other AT binders. I'd hold off.

I've been on the Pures for 2 seasons now and adore them!

Great light binding for skinning. No issues at all with them when I skied Left Gully or the Lake Chutes at Breck last year.

I guess you could consider me "light" since I'm a girl, but don't have any problems rippin' when I use my AT set up!

I'd say that if you want a light, reliable touring set up, then go with the Pures. If you're a big guy, who likes to stomp big air, then get one of the "burly-man" bindings from Fritchi.
