Post More (early) fall foliage

Our annual foliage pilgrimage this year was a early, being the first weekend in October, in southern Vermont. I was looking to take the quintessential Vermont photos, but was having
the darndest time finding one element. This song epitomizes my hunt (sung to the tune of "Send in
the Clowns"):

Isn't it red,
That barn over there?
But all of the fields and the pastures
Are empty and bare.
Where are the cows?

See those tree-covered hills
Turning purple and gold
And look, there's a babbling brook
By the side of the road!

But where are the cows?
There ought to be cows.
Send in the cows.

Ultimately, all of the elements did come together, and here are our photos:

That song is beautiful...and so, so sad. I must gather myself.

Great pics! What's that big house? Where in Vermont are they taken?

If you click on each thumbnail you should get a larger shot with some sort of explanation. The big house is the Southern Vermont Arts Center.

I'm counting on Nov 2nd from my '1st Tracks'. Since Franko won the downhill award, I'm going for '1st Cross Country Tracks'. I'l' make the darn stuff if I have too! The targetted 'slope'.. er.. flatland will be Algonquin Park. Last year (or was it 2001) we drove through the Park on Halloween through snow and following behind a snowplow hard at work!

We had an AMAZING storm here in Ottawa last night. All night thunderstorm. Big cabooms, lightnight, and more .

If it had been snow instead, I be waist deep in POW right now... oh well...

PS. Its still here.

Go Dave go...that seems to open up the possibility for three classes of overall "First Tracks of the Season" winners. Alpine, Nordic, and Snowboard. Dare we add tubing?

Hmmm, perhaps Dave could doctor one of them up until the real stuff starts falling?
