Here are some messages left for fellow hikers and skiers.
I'm thinking of taking a trip up to Tuck's. Any suggestions on when to go or any advice in general to a first timer
Hey people, I am looking to go skiing at tuckerman's with a group of people, age, sex, etc.. does not matter, I live in the north-western virginia area and ski groups around here are slim to none, i am 16 and i love to ski more than anything in the world, if i could hook up with a group going to tuckerman's this 98 spring, I would be ecstatically thrilled! So please, if you know of one, contact me, thanks for your time!!!

I am an avid Tuckerman skier. Yet the earliest I have ever been there is easter. This year I have been debating going in mid march. I have read the avalanch reports and I plan to go soon but I would like to hear from anyone who has already skied in 1998. So if you can please send me some info on the conditions you experienced.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Driving to Tuckerman 29th of April. Brother Johnny can't make it. Need a partner or partners
Ryan, in view of today's weather report, I would consider brigning a pair of warm mittens ;).
Date: Friday, March 13, 1998. Time: 09:30 AM. The Mt Washington Observatory reported a record breaking -25 degrees on the summit over
night. A -90 wind chill was reported this morning. With high temperatures not expected to climb
above zero, and winds in the 50 to 70 mph range, travel above treeline will be HAZARDOUS. BE
ON THE LOOKOUT FOR FROSTBITE AND/OR HYPOTHERMIA.
i am 22 yrs. old and would be able to make it to tuckerman's for my first real back-country trip.
is it any good during memorial day weeek-end or should i stay in detroit!?!?!?!?!?(or anytime past may 5th.????)

Does anyone have any suggestions on Lodging? I've never been
there and would like some info on local lodging. Anything on
places, prices, or good (or bad) experiences would be great.
Has anyone headed up yet this year?? Ive been watching the avalanche reports and it seemed pretty safe until this last storm over the weekend. Any predictions on how long it will take for the snow pack to stabilize? Well, I figure by the middle of april things should be consistantly safe since it was a pretty light year so far. Any input would be appreciated. See you all up there, Chri
Just curious to here from someone who's been up in tucks recently. Wondering just how bad the lower headwall and Sherborne trail are. I would appreciate hearing from you .

Hey, I'm looking for Kai Uwe Allen....are you still up at Tuckermans? I am finally ready to try to ski the ravine, yes I know it took me a while, but I had to practice! Melanie will be home from the GMD in early May, we want to come up for an adventure. If you are still there, write me and we'll hook up! It will be good to see you again.
Peace B W/U! Jennifer
PS Jim Shane died Saturday night. Thought you might like to know
I heard the conditions were disappointing last week.
Is there any snow up there? I was planning a trip 4/15-17?
Would appreciate any insight. Thanks Kath
It's the first weeek of april. Does anyone have any ideas on how mid may will be this season? thanks.
Your site brought back memories (and sweaty palms) of one of the most terrifying
and satisfying ski trips ever. I'd give one run down Tuckerman's
for a week in Colorado. Nice work.
hey guys! how goes it?
i just went up to tuck's today w/ my school...what a bomb ass day!
and let me tell ya...i'll never look at skiers how i useta! there
foot holds are very welcomed...ever tried getting soft snowboard
boots to stay on an hard packed, 45 degree wall of snow for half
a mile??? it's sooooo awesome!
tip: (don't fall or drop ur board)
and then ride down a chute where u can stand up, put ur hand out,
and touch the wall w/ 4 inches of loose snow!!! (ya, that place
was closed but i hadta git down in and that wz the safest way)
can't wait till next year!!!!!!!
I would very much appreciate any reports from individuals who have skiied Tucks
this season. I havn't been up in a while and would like to be able
to plan for a trip. Please give details
Wondering if anyone knows of any designated mountain biking trails around Tuckerman. A trail running out of Dolly Copp (sp?) would be ideal. Also, has anyone heard of a super long range forecast for weather to come at the end of May? Let me know when anyone has a chance.
Bill, Glen, Brian and co. tear it up this weekend and have a
few Olys for me. Call when you get back
Anyone know if the headwall is still skiable for the month of May? Hello to any Frenchies and UMASSers
Hey! If you are reading this, you have done well! Just saying hi and hope that your day is going okay. Remember, no matter how thirsty you get, DO NOT drink the water from the brook at the top - or anywhere. You could get SICK! Enjoy yourselves. STICK TO THE PATH. k
If anyone has Dolly Copp campgrounds' telephone number, I would really appreciate it if I could score it.
Status of Ravine Skiiing as of May 2 - 3
I posted this info under TIPS by mistake. Take a look, but that was 9 days ago. Much rain since.
I am looking for anyone who skied Tuckerman's on May 1, 1994, especially anyone who may have taken pictures. I am defending a lawsuit brought against the Snow Rangers, which alleges that the U.S.F.S. was negligent for failing to barricade the Cutler River waterfall or post signs up on the Ravine to warn of its presence. The lawsuit alleges that this failure to barricade was the cause of a death that occurred on May 1, 1994, when an individual who was sliding above the Headwall, slid over the Headwall and into the crevasse below the waterfall. If you were present that day or have pictures, please contact me at email@example.com. Thanks for your help
Sorry Gretchen, I don't believe in multi-million dollar lawsuits against the USFS for self-negligent accidents. Did they slide down the mountain on luch trays, or were they "glisading" down in their snow boots??
See you all at Tuck's on Tues May 19.
Hi! My father used to LOVE Tuckermans ravine, in fact, when he died, he wanted his spread there, but his mom insisted he go into the family plot! He was buried in his ski stuff, and now I use his skis, he called them his magic skis... Anyway, the point of this post is to find someone who may have skied Tuckermans with him in the 70's. His name is Bruce Nicoll, and he would have been in his 20'3 then. He was from Somerville, MA, he started the Somerville HS ski club. I would love to hear from anyone who might have skied with him! Thanks!
